PPL, Global Lens team for film program

PROVIDENCE – Providence Public Library and Rhode Island College are collaborating to offer Global Lens 2013, a free film and discussion series this fall.
This series is a curated program of international feature films selected for their authentic voice, strong cinematics and unique cultural perspective.
A series of 5 films will be shown at the library at 6 p.m. on Thursday evenings Sept. 12 and 26, Oct. 10 and 24 and Nov. 7 in the auditorium. Short discussions follow each film, led by members of the Rhode Island College Dialogue on Diversity Committee.
The films also will be shown on Mondays at RIC’s Adams Library Fortes Room on Mondays Sept. 9 and 23, Oct. 7 and 21 and Nov. 4.
The series has been developed by the Global Film Initiative, which was created to promote cross-cultural understanding through the medium of cinema. The Education Program of the Global Film Initiative presents full-length feature films from around the world, in specially-designed programs that encourage viewers to gain a deeper understanding of different cultural points of view.
This fall’s line-up includes: Shyamal Uncle Turns Off the Lights, Sept. 9 and 12; The Fantastic World of Juan Orol, Sept. 23 and 26; Life Kills Me, Oct. 7 and 10; Southwest, Oct. 21 and 24; Student, Nov. 4 and 7.
