PWCVB encourages buyers to ‘do over’ canceled winter outings

PROVIDENCE – Getting past the winter doldrums by encouraging “do-overs” on April 12 is the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau’s latest strategy for boosting business.

President and CEO Martha Sheridan said that before spring hit, frequent snow storms and cold inhibited shopping and Valentine’s Day diners, hurting local restaurants and other businesses.

“Many people had plans ruined because of the winter weather,” Sheridan said in a prepared statement. “By simply ‘doing over’ activities that were cancelled, we can all contribute to our local economy and support businesses in our community.”

The organization has posted a “Do-Over Day” page on its website at www.GoProvidence.com with offers for dining, shopping and local attractions. Participating companies and groups include the Providence Performing Arts Center, the Hall at Patriot Place Presented by Raytheon, La Gondola and the Wayland Square Merchants Association.

While discounts are offered by many merchants, the main motivation for the “Do-Over Day” is to promote local business, Sheridan said.
