Pagnam tapped for UMass fundraising

BOSTON – Charles J. Pagnam, who has been serving in top fundraising positions at the University of Massachusetts Foundation and at UMass Medical School, will assume full-time duties at the UMass Foundation.
UMass President Robert L. Caret, who is also president of the UMass Foundation, said Pagnam will be responsible for the systemwide goal of raising $1 billion.
Pagnam, the former vice president for development at Yale University, has served as vice chancellor for development at UMass Medical School since 2007. In 2012, he assumed the additional roles of vice president for advancement of the University of Massachusetts system and executive vice president of the UMass Foundation.
The UMass Foundation manages the endowment of the five campuses of the UMass system, including UMass Dartmouth; promotes philanthropic support for the University of Massachusetts and assists the UMass campuses with their fundraising activities.
Proceeds generated by the endowment are used in accordance with donors’ wishes primarily to provide student scholarships and create endowed chairs and professorships for faculty.
The UMass endowment has experienced dramatic growth over the past two decades, increasing from $38 million in 1995 to nearly $750 million today. •
