All eight of Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group’s bakery-cafés recently made a delectable donation of black bean soup to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank through its partnership with Feeding America.
The donation, which consisted of 45 cases of soup, was a part of the Food Bank’s 150,000-pound Summer Food Drive. During the drive, several companies, including Panera Bread, donated 50,000 pounds of food. The other 100,000 pounds were left to be collected from the community.
Panera Bread generated funds to provide the soup through the Panera Cares Community Breadbox Program. The program allows customers to give cash donations for the food bank at the register. Half of the funds donated are used to procure soup and the other half goes directly to the food bank in order to support the organization’s efforts.
Panera Catering also provided a complimentary breakfast for all guests that attended the Summer Food Drive’s kick-off event. •
