Panera collects gifts for Children’s Friend

PROVIDENCE – A Panera Bread holiday gift drive collected gifts for 110 children in 47 families for Children’s Friend.
Customers and employees collected the gifts at 11 bakery-cafes in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. The drive included the Panera Bread outlet at the Providence Place Mall.
For the sixth consecutive year, Panera customers participated in the gift drive by going to the counter at the eatery, selecting a gift tag with a specific child’s first name on it, and then purchasing the suggested “wish list” items noted.
Each gift tag was special with a specific child, his/her age and a list of presents. Those participating then brought the gifts back to the respective cafes in a gift bag with the gift tag attached.
With centers in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls, Children’s Friend, a nonprofit founded in 1834, is Rhode Island’s oldest child welfare organization and a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health and youth development services.
All told, Children’s Friend served 1,450 families through its broader holiday Spirit of Giving campaign.
Howley Bread Group Ltd., based in Lincoln, is a franchise of Panera Bread, and owns and operates a total of 28 bakery-cafes in Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts and the greater Hartford and eastern Connecticut markets.
