PBN: What are the benefits of being part of the society?

EASTERBROOKS: SMPS is the largest professional association specifically serving marketing and sales professionals from the architectural/engineering/construction industries. Initially I benefited most from SMPS’ many educational offerings. Although I had strong writing skills and I had engineering experience, I had no formal marketing education. SMPS filled this knowledge gap. Classes are taught by truly the brightest people working in these industries.

PBN: What’s unique about marketing for A/E/C industries?

EASTERBROOKS: We are not marketing a product coming off an assembly line. We are marketing design creativity, knowledge of codes and regulations and innovative construction techniques that result in the community around us – buildings, transportation facilities, public and recreational facilities and our entire infrastructure system. I love working in the A/E/C industries because of the opportunity to create something that is lasting.

PBN: Tell us about the importance of rebranding and your experience bringing Pare Corp.’s brand identity to the marketplace.

EASTERBROOKS: When I joined the firm in 1998, we made rebranding a priority. We redesigned our logo and every single company document, rolled out our first website and rebranded the firm to reflect our new capabilities and our maturation to a regional firm working from Maine to Virginia. We also changed our name from Pare Engineering to Pare Corp., to encompass nonengineering services such as planning and wetland sciences. •
