Providence Mayor Angel Taveras on July 2 announces completion of more than $400,000 in stormwater improvements to Roger Williams Park to restore water quality in 100 acres of historic ponds. The work included creation of five major stormwater-treatment areas, removal of paved surfaces and the addition of a new walking path. Volunteers planted more than 3,000 native wetland plants to reduce water pollution and restore eroded shorelines. The city also completed a water-quality restoration plan for the ponds.
