Passenger traffic climbs in 2016 at T.F. Green

WARWICK – Passenger traffic was 2.4 percent higher in 2016 compared with 2015 at T.F. Green Airport, the R.I. Airport Corp. said Monday.

Passenger traffic totaled 3,653,029 last year compared with 3,566,105 in 2015.

Passenger traffic also rose 1.2 percent in December, to 289,534 from 286,139 in December 2015.

United Airlines had the greatest percentage increase in passengers in December at 3.9 percent, to 19,783 compared with 19,044 in December 2015. United holds a 6.8 percent market share at the airport.

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, which flies year-round to Cape Verde, holds the smallest market share at 0.5 percent. It also had the greatest percentage decline over the year in passengers at 16.8 percent, to 1,446 from 1,738.

Airlines reporting over-the-year passenger gains were Southwest Airlines at 3.9 percent, to 143,926 from 138,578, and American Airlines at 0.43 percent, to 67,731 from 67,444. Southwest holds the largest market share at nearly 50 percent, while American is next-largest at 23.4 percent.

Reporting declines over the year were Delta Airlines at 2.8 percent, to 32,329 from 33,262, and JetBlue at 2.6 percent, to 22,978 from 23,585. Delta holds an 11.2 percent market share, JetBlue, a nearly 8 percent market share.

Cargo increased 12.4 percent in December, to 3.5 million pounds from 3.1 million pounds, and also climbed 2.5 percent in 2016, to 27.7 million pounds from 27 million pounds in 2015.

  1. Every flight I take in and out is 95-100% full. In 2017 we need a few additional flights and destinations and possibly a new carrier or the slow growth is going to stop. Green will have a nice long,safe all weather main runway this Fall. Perhaps that will provide some incentive.
