Passenger traffic declines again in November at T.F. Green

WARWICK – Passenger traffic again dropped at T.F. Green in November, registering 281,044 passengers, a nearly 5 percent drop from November 2013’s 295,452 passengers.

The decline was even greater year-to-date, as the airport recorded 3,285,793 passengers, a drop of 6 percent compared with 3,499,846 passengers that either enplaned or deplaned there during the same 11- month period a year ago.

The numbers represent the 11th consecutive month of year-over-year passenger declines at the airport.
Cargo, typically a brighter spot for the airport, dropped 6.5 percent in November, to 2,030,186 lbs. from 2,172,017 lbs. Year-to-date, cargo traffic increased 2.7 percent, to 24.2 million lbs. from 23.6 million lbs. in 2013.

Three major carriers, Southwest Airlines, US Airways and United Airlines, posted passenger declines when comparing November 2014 with November 2013, while Delta Airlines and JetBlue experienced increases.
Southwest Airlines, which has the greatest market share at 46.2 percent at the airport, had 129,854 passengers in November, a 0.71 percent drop from November 2013’s 130,778.
The next largest carrier, US Airways, had a 24.5 percent market share with 68,758 passengers in November, a 5 percent drop compared with 72,511 passengers in November 2013.
United Airlines had the least amount of market share in November among the major carriers at 6.6 percent, or 18,486 passengers. It also had the greatest passenger decline at nearly 50 percent.
JetBlue had an 8.1 percent market share with 22,701 passengers. It posted a 21 percent passenger increase compared with November 2013’s numbers.
Delta Airlines had a 14 percent market share with 39,348 passengers, a 6 percent increase compared with a year ago.
As for mail and freight, Federal Express was the largest cargo carrier in November with 1.1 million lbs., followed by Wiggins Airways with 105,742 lbs.
