Passenger traffic increases slightly at T.F. Green in October

WARWICK – Passenger traffic at T.F. Green Airport increased in October by 0.01 percent on a year-over-year basis, or 29 passengers, to 314,081, even though airlines provided approximately 3 percent less scheduled seat capacity, according to information from the R.I. Airport Corporation.
This is the second consecutive month that the airport reported an increase in passengers.
While passenger traffic fell 0.85 percent through the first 10 months of the year to 2,979,154, compared with 3,004,749 during the same 2014 period, it improved from September’s report, when the nine-month decline was reported at 0.95 percent.
Among the major carriers, United Airlines had the largest passenger increase at 7.1 percent over the year to 27,621. United held 8.8 percent of the market share in October, which was fourth highest.
Southwest Airlines, which holds the largest market share at 45.4 percent, had the next-highest passenger increase at 5.3 percent, to 142,516. JetBlue, which held the fifth-largest market share at 7.7 percent, had a 3.3 percent increase in passengers to 24,233.
Delta Airlines, with the third-largest market share at 13.5 percent, had the largest decrease at 10.2 percent to 42,509. American Airlines, formerly US Airways, holder of the second-largest market share at 23.8 percent, saw traffic fall 6.6 percent to 74,593.
Cabo Verde Airlines, which launched service to Cape Verde in June, had 689 passengers in October. According to information from the airport, the airline only had two flights for the month as it had a planned pause for aircraft maintenance. A total of 2,182 passengers flew on the airline in September, with 12,232 people flying on the airline since June.
Cargo in October fell 7.2 percent to 2,459,268 lbs. from 2,648,701 lbs. in October 2014.

  1. To go with the monthly results, the RIAC director, Mr. Fredericks was quoted as saying that flights in and out of Green are 90% full, which is remarkable for any airport. I would have thought it was even higher as almost every flight I take is a full house or nearly so, even the ones that are stupidly expensive compared to Boston which is only a portion. We need a new carrier at Green or a commitment from one already here to offer more comprehensive service than the anorexic schedules today. United and Delta come to mind but they are busy protecting their slipping market shares at Logan. The Southern New England demand is here. Let’s get some more product to sell.
