Passenger traffic rises in May at T.F. Green

WARWICK – Passenger traffic rose slightly in May year over year at T.F. Green Airport, the second consecutive month of increases, according to statistics released Tuesday by the R.I. Airport Corp.

Passenger traffic climbed 0.02 percent, or by 63 passengers, to 314,068 in May from 314,005 in May 2014.

Passenger traffic increased in January, but declined in February and March, climbing again in April and May.

Year to date, passenger traffic fell 1.2 percent, or by 16,110, to 1,390,314 compared with 1,406,424 during the first five months of 2014.

Among the five largest carriers, Southwest Airlines held the largest market share at nearly 49 percent and 153,676 passengers in May, followed by US Airways at 24 percent and 75,331 passengers; Delta Airlines at 12.3 percent and 38,571 passengers; JetBlue Airways at 7.7 percent and 24,269 passengers; and United Airlines at 7 percent and 21,975 passengers.

Year over year in May, JetBlue had the greatest increase in passengers at 6.5 percent, followed by Southwest at 5.3 percent. United had the largest drop year over year at 8.9 percent, followed by US Airways at 7 percent.

Cargo fell 5.3 percent in May to 2.2 million pounds, and also decreased 2.4 percent to 10.1 million pounds during the first five months of the year.
