Passengers increase at T.F. Green in October, cargo declines

PROVIDENCE – T.F. Green Airport had a 3.3 percent increase in passengers in October, to 324,582 from 314,081 in October 2015, the R.I. Airport Corp. said Tuesday.
It also experienced a year-to-date gain of 2.6 percent passengers, to 3,055,337 from 2,979,154 during the same year-ago period.
Among the major carriers, United Airlines had the greatest increase in passengers over the year at 10,709, to 85,302 from 74,593, while Southwest Airlines had the largest decrease at 6,339, falling to 136,177 from 142,516.
Southwest held the largest market share at the airport at 42 percent, followed by American Airlines at 26.3 percent; Delta Airlines at 13.4 percent; United Airlines at 10.5 percent; JetBlue Airways, 6.4 percent; charters, 1 percent; and TACV Cabo Verde Airlines, 0.4 percent.
Despite its small market share, TACV, which flies year-round to Cape Verde, had the largest percentage increase year-over-year at 107.7 percent, to 1,431 last month from 689 in October 2015. JetBlue Airways had the largest percentage decline at 13.6 percent, to 20,932 from 24,233.

Cargo fell over the year and year to date by 11.4 percent and 0.32 percent, respectively. Cargo handled at the airport totaled 2,179,187 pounds in October, while year to date, the amount of cargo handled totaled 21,848,582 pounds.
