Passport plan links yoga, Pilates studios across Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE – A statewide group, Rhode To Wellness, has launched a new initiative, the “Yoga and Pilates Passport,” enabling consumers to buy a “passport” to work out at 37 different studios across Rhode Island.

“As a yoga teacher, what I’ve heard from students is that the hardest class to attend is the first one,” said Jennifer Spaziano, co-founder of the passport. “And with so many different styles and levels, it’s confusing to know what’s best for that person. Our mission is to reduce those barriers – time, money, confusion – and get people to take the first step.”

The passport initiative seeks to support the growing, yet fragile, wellness industry in Rhode Island, according to Spaziano.

The idea emerged from a conversation Spaziano had in a coffee shop with friend and yoga teacher Jenn Thomas, now a co-founder of the initiative.

Thomas saw the new initiative as a platform to support an individual’s personal road to wellness. “The passport inspires people to explore all that yoga and Pilates has to offer locally – even for the current student who may be stuck in rut and needs motivation to explore new styles and teachers,” Thomas said.

The program has created a partnership with the Greater Providence YMCA. The passport is also offered at a discount to all Lifepsan employees through an internal wellness program. •
