Patrick announces partnership between Mass., Tokyo firms

TOKYO – Gov. Deval L. Patrick last week announced a partnership between Massachusetts-based Desalitech and Japan’s Toyo Engineering Corp. that will “introduce environmentally responsible and highly economical water and wastewater treatment solutions to Japanese, East Asian and international markets.”
Patrick, in the midst of a trade mission to Japan, said in a statement the agreement is a testament to the fact that “Massachusetts is competing on the global playing field.” According to a news release from the companies, the collaboration between Desalitech and Toyo will bring Closed Circuit Desalination reverse osmosis technology to East Asian and other international markets in an effort to increase water recovery, improve energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact and reduce disposal costs.
Desalitech, previously based in Israel, relocated to Newton, Mass., earlier this year, following a separate Patrick trade mission to Israel in 2011. The company focuses on reverse-osmosis processes for effluent treatment and greatly reduces negative ecological impacts while improving the productive and responsible use of natural resources.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. •
