PROVIDENCE – The New England Patriots are the second most valuable team in the National Football League, behind the Dallas Cowboys, according to Forbes.
Forbes, which released its annual list of the most valuable NFL teams this week, said the Patriots are valued at $3.4 billion, generate revenue of $523 million and have an operating income of $212 million.
The Cowboys, in comparison, are valued at $4.2 billion, and had revenue of $700 million and operating income of $300 million in 2015. Forbes said the Cowboys’ revenue and operating income set records last year.
Forbes said the Cowboys’ new $1.5 billion team headquarters and practice facility in Frisco, Texas, will eventually be a 91-acre “retail and entertainment powerhouse that could help keep the team atop the NFL valuations for years.”
Forbes said that relocation and new stadiums drove NFL team values 19 percent higher over the past year, to an average of $2.34 billion.
The New York Giants with a value of $3.1 billion, San Francisco 49ers at $3 billion and Washington Redskins at $2.95 billion, round out the top five.
