Pawtucket Foundation honors three at 10th annual awards

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Foundation honored three individuals who have made significant contributions to the city at its 10th annual awards celebration.

“The recipients embody civic leadership and entrepreneurship representative of the Pawtucket Foundation’s core values: collaboration, vision, sustainability, quality of place and excellence,” said a foundation release.

William J. Hunt, president of Shove Insurance, earned the “Person of the Year” recognition from the foundation, which honored him for individual contributions to the quality of economic and community life in the city of Pawtucket.

“Mr. Hunt’s commitment to the city of Pawtucket has been unwavering,” said the foundation’s awards program, which gave examples of Hunt’s activities as a community leader and his examples of community service.

Gretchen Dow Simpson, a “prominent local artist known for her unique style and distinctive view of New England architecture,” earned a “Special Distinction” award from the Pawtucket Foundation.

Dow Simpson, a 1961 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, has published her work in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly and a variety of galleries, including other publications.

Stewart “Nick” H. Steffey Jr., founding shareholder of Narragansett Bay Insurance Co., earned the foundation’s “Heritage Award” for “honoring long-term contributions to the quality of economic and community life in the city of Pawtucket.”

“Over the years, both Mr. Steffey and NBIC have made numerous contributions to charitable organizations and events in Pawtucket,” said a release.

The foundation’s 10th annual awards celebration took place Tuesday at the Pawtucket Armory Arts Center in Pawtucket.
