PAWTUCKET – National exposure will come later this month for Judd Brown Design & Jefferson Group Architecture, of Pawtucket, whose work on the interior spaces of historic Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey may be visible to viewers watching the 98th PGA Championship.
The design and architecture company was selected 16 years ago to create a master plan for the Baltusrol facilities, according to Brown, president of the company, in a recent interview. Through the years, its renovation and design work have reshaped various areas at the clubhouse, including a members’ casual bar and grill, the pro shop, the men’s locker room and a more formal dining room.
The PGA Championship tournament this year will be played from July 28 through 31.
According to Brown, the relationship with Baltusrol formed when its CEO, who then lived in Massachusetts, contracted with the company to work on facilities at the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Conn. When he became chief executive at Baltusrol, the Brown team was among several invited to submit master plan designs.
Brown said he was most pleased with the redesign of the bar and grill, which had a classic if somewhat stodgy look before it was redone in 2011. The new look retains that classic look, but with upgraded furnishings and décor.
