CRANSTON – Due to federal funding reductions, the Pawtucket netWORKri One-Stop Career Center at 175 Main St. will close after Thursday, Sept. 6, the R.I. Department of Labor and Training announced Monday.

“The Pawtucket netWORKri center is a valuable community resource, and the decision to close the office was very difficult,” DLT Director Charles J. Fogarty said in a prepared statement. “However, as a state agency, we have a fiscal responsibility to operate within our current budget and we no longer have the funding needed to continue operations at the Main Street location.”

The Pawtucket center was originally slated to close in April, but efforts made by Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee and Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien allowed the department to continue operations at the Main Street site throughout the summer, according to the release.

Staff members currently working at the Pawtucket office will be reassigned to other netWORKri locations after Sept.6.
