People’s Credit receives national award

MIDDLETOWN – People’s Credit Union’s President and CEO Ellen Ford has received the Credit Union National Association’s Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Honorable Mention Award. She was presented the award on March 21 at CUNA’s governmental affairs conference in Washington, D.C.

People’s was the only New England-based credit union to be honored with the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award. The credit union had to first win the state award competition before being sent to the national competition.

“It was quite an honor to be presented with this award at the CUNA’s recent Governmental Affairs Conference. Our youth financial education initiative is an important contribution to the growth and success of the credit union movement,” Ford said.

The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action award recognizes credit unions that do an extraordinary job incorporating credit union philosophy into daily operations. People’s winning entry was for its “My CU Savings Club” and “My CU Checking Accounts.” The entry covered People’s effort to educate today’s youth on the credit union difference and the value of money.
