People’s honored by BCBSRI, Chamber as healthy worksite

MIDDLETOWN – People’s Credit Union recently received an Outstanding Worksite Health Award from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
This award was presented to People’s in recognition of its programs encouraging employee health and well-being. Established in 1922, People’s Credit Union offers online and mobile banking, savings and checking accounts, personal loans, mortgages, business accounts, business loans and financial services.
“It is an honor to be recognized alongside other Rhode Island companies that are making strides to improve the lives of their employees. At People’s, we are proud to be acknowledged for our efforts in promoting a culture of wellness,” said Melissa Burton, People’s president of human resources, in a statement.
Hundreds of state business leaders attended a breakfast where more than 75 Rhode Island businesses were honored with a Worksite Health Award by Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
“We commend People’s Credit Union for investing in wellness programming and creating a stronger workforce,” said Melissa Cummings, chief customer officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. “True wellness is the culmination of many smaller choices, not just a new workout regimen or a fad diet, and we applaud this year’s Worksite Health Award recipients whose initiatives highlight the many ways that supporting those healthier decisions can improve life at work, at home and throughout our community.”
The event acknowledged local businesses in Rhode Island who have committed to improving Rhode Islander’s overall health through innovative wellness programs, as companies and individuals.
“By increasing morale and production, and decreasing health care costs and sick leave, worksite health programs are a win for all involved. We applaud People’s Credit Union for making the commitment to invest in the wellness of their team and for inspiring more Rhode Island businesses to find creative ways to help their employees live better, healthier and happier lives. We encourage other companies to follow their lead,” said Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
