The winners of the People’s Credit Union 2012 eight grade scholarship were announced May 31, 2012. The scholarships were awarded to one student in each town that People’s has a branch location. The six winners are:
“This is the fifth year we are awarding 8th grade scholarships to deserving students. We are so happy to help local teens pursue their dream of a college education. All of this year’s winners are an asset to their school and community,” said Ellen N. Ford, People’s president and CEO.
The scholarships were awarded based on school involvement, community involvement and the answer to an essay question. The scholarship recipients will each receive $500 but they have the chance to increase that amount each year of high school. For each final grade that is an A, $50 is added to the scholarship amount. Twenty-five dollars is added to the amount for each final grade in the 9th through 12th grades that is a B. The maximum amount to be earned is $1,000.
