VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS

Ocean State Tall Ships will host a volunteer reception and sign-up event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 30. The reception will include a presentation by Alyson Lagreca, volunteer coordinator for Ocean State Tall Ships, as well as information on volunteer opportunities available for the Ocean State Tall Ships Festival in July. This free event will be held at the Seamen’s Church Institute, 18 Market Square, Newport. CHILD THERAPY WORKSHOP

Child & Family will present a workshop on child therapy with Sarah O’Brien, a licensed independent clinical social worker and registered play therapist-supervisor, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, April 2. Participants will learn the basics of child-centered communication, play therapy and more. CEUs are available upon request. The workshop will take place in the Child & Family Community Center, 31 John Clarke Road, Middletown. Cost: free for members of the Newport Initiative, $35 nonmembers; includes lunch. HOUSING RIBBON CUTTING

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the George Galen Wheeler House, 57 Fair St., Warwick, starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 2. Several state and local leaders will join House of Hope Community Development Corp. to celebrate the completion of five new homes for formerly homeless individuals with disabilities. This event is free and open to the public.

ART CONNECTION ANNIVERSARY

The Art Connection Rhode Island, which brings artists and donors together with public service nonprofits, will celebrate its first anniversary on Tuesday, April 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The celebration will be hosted at the Art Connection Gallery at Roots Cultural Center, 276 Westminster St., Providence. There will be an art exhibition and sale, as well as live music performances. Suggested admission is $20, though attendees can opt for pay-what-you-can or donate an original piece of art. SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Project GOAL will host its inaugural Corporate 7 vs. 7 Charity Soccer Tournament starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 7. The friendly competition will help raise money for Project GOAL’s afterschool programs. Everyone is invited to attend and participate. There will be activities for the whole family courtesy Brown University’s SportsCorps. Sponsorships start at $1,200 a team.
