COMPANION VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT
Homefront Health Care will hold an informational session for volunteers interested in providing companionship to home-bound seniors on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. The meeting will be held in the organization’s Warwick office, 335A Centerville Road, Warwick. Volunteer candidates should be 18 or older, be able to provide two references and be able to pass a background check. During the meeting, those interested will learn more about the opportunity, the training to be provided and the time commitment. Pre-registration is required for this session. WIFFLEBALL TOURNAMENT
The ninth annual Edd Pedro’s Fight for a Cure Wiffleball Tournament will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday Aug. 12 at Slater Memorial Park, Newport Avenue, Pawtucket. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Arthritis Foundation’s fight for a cure. Teams will have a minimum of three players each and balls will be supplied. Past tournaments have raised more than $197,000. During the event, the Rhode Island Blood Center will collect blood donations. Registration: $35 per player. MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING
The Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation will host an inaugural golf outing to raise money for children’s character-building programs. The tournament, which honors slain firefighter Jim Pagano, will be held Monday, Aug. 13 at the Alpine Country Club, 251 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston. Registration begins at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The event will feature raffles, contests and a silent auction. Registration deadline is July 31. Tickets: $150 per golfer, includes golf cart, lunch and dinner. Additional dinner tickets can be purchased for $45. ONE-MAN PERFORMANCE TO BENEFIT VNS
Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties will host a benefit performance by Song Man/Dance Man Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St., Newport. Song Man/Dance Man is a one-man play starring Broadway’s Jon Peterson. During his performance, Peterson will impersonate seven song and dance men from the stage, including Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Sammy Davis Jr. All proceeds from the show will benefit the homecare, hospice and community health programs of Visiting Nurse Services. AN EVENING OF ART AND WINE
The Rhode Island chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will holds its 25th annual MS After Dark Wine Tasting Thursday, Aug. 16 at The Providence Art Club, 11 Thomas St., Providence. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature nearly 200 wines, food, a silent auction and raffle. Valet parking will be available for a fee. Tickets: $75 per person or $125 for two.
