ADOPT AN ARTIST RECEPTION

Child & Family and the Newport Art Museum will host a cocktail reception honoring Mary Jennings for her ongoing support of the Adopt An Artist program from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Ave., Newport. The event includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit Adopt An Artist, a partnership between Child & Family and the museum, which provides tuition and materials for art classes at the museum’s studio school, the Coleman Center for Creative studies. QUIZ BOWL FOR AFFORDABLE ENERGY

The George Wiley Center will hold its third annual quiz bowl to benefit its campaign for affordable energy in addition to the Rhode Island Campaign to Eliminate Childhood Poverty. The event will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the McCoy Stadium Club House, Columbus Avenue, Pawtucket. Attendees may answer questions that are not necessarily trivial. Participation is not required. The evening includes dinner, snacks and a cash bar. Donations: $320 for a team of eight, $50 individual players, $30 nonplayers. GREATER WESTERLY HEART WALK

The 2012 Greater Westerly Heart Walk will be held from 9 to 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Watch Hill Gazebo, Bay Street, Westerly. The event will be held rain or shine and participants may choose to complete a 3- or 5-mile walk. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Walkers may register as individuals or as part of a team. No minimum donation is required. Participants are eligible for a Heart Walk t-shirt once they have raised a minimum of $100. Additional prizes for top fundraisers will be awarded. FLEMING’S DINNER & AUCTION

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar will host a wine auction and dinner to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the restaurant, 1 W. Exchange St., Providence. The event includes a pre-dinner reception, a three-course dinner and silent wine auction with collectible and large-format wines. Tickets: $250 per couple, $125 individuals. GLORIA GEMMA 5K

The fourth annual Gloria Gemma 5K will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station Park, 100 Gaspee St., Providence. Runners and walkers will make their way through the streets of historic Providence in support of the fight against breast cancer. This year’s 5K includes the inaugural Kids 1K, open to children 14 and younger only. It will be held from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. Participants may register at the event or pick up a registration packet on Friday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Providence Marriott Downtown, 1 Orms St., Providence.
