Southside Community Land Trust will hold a Harvesting Hope event from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Steel Yard, 27 Sims Ave., Providence. STEP UP FOR RIC NURSING
The School of Nursing of Rhode Island College will host Step Up for RIC Nursing, a Night to Shine, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19 at Chapel Grille, Chapel Grille Boulevard, Cranston. The evening includes a buffet and live entertainment by Rhode Island College students enrolled in the department of music, theatre and dance. There will also be a silent auction. FRIAR 5K RACE
Providence College will hold the third annual Friar 5K race at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 on its campus, 1 Cunningham Square, Providence. Participants will walk or run a 3.1-mile route through the campus and the surrounding neighborhood, beginning and ending at Harkins Hall. Awards will be given to top finishers in each age group. Participants are invited to the Friar Fan Fest following the race. The event includes awards, live entertainment, a farmer’s market and refreshments. GLORIA GEMMA FLAMES OF HOPE WEEKEND
The seventh annual Gloria Gemma Flames of Hope weekend begins Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony and 2013 “Celebrate Hope, Celebrate Life” calendar unveiling at the Providence Marriott Downtown, 1 Orms St., Providence. Beginning at noon on Saturday, Oct. 6 there will be an opening ceremony followed by educational and health exhibits at Station Park, 100 Gaspee St., Providence. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a Pink Party with food, live music, dessert and dancing. Admission: $25. All proceeds benefit the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.
