MEAL DRIVE OPEN HOUSE

The Rhode Island Community Food Bank will open its doors to the public from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 15. As part of its holiday meal drive, the food bank has invited those of all ages to donate and sort food, and tour the food bank, located at 200 Niantic Ave., Providence. Miss Rhode Island and Miss Teen Rhode Island will present. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served and attendees may participate in scavenger hunts. Most needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna, canned fruits and vegetables, dried or canned beans, pasta, rice, breakfast cereal, and canned soups, stews or chili. WRWC HOLIDAY GATHERING

The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council will hold its annual holiday gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Attendees are invited to join the council and other supporters for food, drinks and a brief presentation on the organization’s activities in 2012 and plans for 2013. The event will be held in The Promenade Lobby, 255 Promenade St., Providence. Parking is available in the lot on Promenade Street past Holden Street. ZUMBATHON FOR CCAP

Body Complete Fitness will host a Zumbathon to benefit the Community Comprehensive Action Program from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 1375 Park Ave., Cranston. Those interested may participate in the dance and exercise event for free with the donation of non-perishable food items. Items collected will be donated to the program. WINTER WISH SWIM

Children’s Wishes will hold its second annual Winter Wish Swim at 11 a.m. on Jan. 1. Participants will solicit sponsorships to benefit the organization before going for a quick swim at Bristol Town Beach at Colt State Park. Towels, embroidered sweatshirts and jackets will be given to those who collect $100, $200 or $500 in sponsorships. The first 100 people to register on the day of the event will receive a free mug. WOMEN’S FUND GRANTS

The Women’s Fund at the Community Foundation is now accepting letters of inquiry for 2013 Action Award grants. The focus of the grant program is to promote the educational attainment and economic security of women and girls in Southeastern Massachusetts. Grants awarded will support Bristol and Plymouth County neighborhood-based organizations that provide programs and services to low-income women and girls. Interested organizations must submit a letter of inquiry by Jan. 15. The Women’s Fund will review submissions and notify organizations whether or not they have been selected to submit full proposals. Awarded grants will be up to $5,000 each and are only available to 501(c)3 organizations.
