ART EXHIBIT & SALE
Haiti’s Child will hold a Haitian art exhibit and sale from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Chabot Fine Art Gallery, 379 Atwells Ave., Providence. The event will feature framed and unframed photographs, canvas art and original drawings by children in Croix de Bouquets, Haiti, the organization’s mission site. TUTOR TRAINING SESSION
Literacy Volunteers of Kent County will begin a training session for volunteers interested in teaching adult students English as a Second Language or basic literacy on from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Trainings will be held at Coventry Health and Human Services, 191, 193, 195 MacArthur Blvd., Coventry. Volunteers should be older than 18 and residents of Kent County. MENTORING ON ICE
The Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership will honor National Mentoring Month from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Bank of America Skating Rink, Kennedy Plaza Providence. During the event, the organization will recognize mentors and mentees from across the state, in addition to the friends, families, program coordinators, elected officials and supporters who make mentoring programs possible. Admission and rental fee: $5 per mentor/mentee pair, $4 friends and family, $2.50 mentees whose mentors are unable to attend and are accompanied by friends or family over the age of 18. The Newport Initiative for Nonprofit Leadership will offer an intensive training on applied analysis of behavior (ABA) for children with autism from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Child and Family, 31 John Clarke Road, Middletown. Trainer Robert Kidd will present several case studies illustrating language development in children with autism spectrum disorder in addition to a brief explanation of ABA as it relates to autism treatment. The Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence at the Rhode Island Foundation will offer a speed-mentoring breakfast for emerging leaders of nonprofit organizations from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31 at the Rhode Island Foundation, 1 Union Station, Providence. During the event, up to 30 emerging leaders will spend about 30 minutes with three nonprofit executive directors who will share their personal stories of leadership.
