The Portsmouth, Rhode Island 375th Celebration Committee will hold a soup Sunday fundraiser from noon to 2 p.m. at St. Barnabas’ Parish Hall, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. A variety of hot soups, salads and bread will be served to raise funds for future committee events and preservation of historic artifacts and documents at the Portsmouth Free Public Library. At 1:30 p.m., diners will gather in the parking lot to help form a human heart that will be photographed from above. Tickets: $6 adults, $4 children, free for those 2 and younger. Tickets will not be available and must be purchased by Friday, Feb. 15. All attendees will receive a free pass for skating at the Portsmouth Abbey Hockey Rink that will be valid from 2 to 4 p.m. through March 3. Friends of Ballard Park is looking for volunteers to assist in the execution of its eighth annual Illuminated Garden event. The East Providence/Seekonk Rotary club will award four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors from East Providence High School, East Providence Career & Technical Center, Saint Mary’s Bay View Academy and Seekonk High School. The funds will be presented to East Providence or Seekonk residents who best exemplify the criteria of service, leadership and academic achievement. The Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful program is selling a canoe through an email-based auction. Those interested have until noon on March 22 to bid on the hand-painted canoe featured in the “Blackstone Canoe Trail” from the public arts project campaign of 2006.
