GET SMART BENEFIT

The Learning Community will host a Get Smart event to benefit the K-8 public school that serves students from Central Falls, Pawtucket and Providence. The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at Roots, 276 Westminster St., Providence. The evening will include cocktails, cuisine, live music, a silent auction and other surprises. KENTUCKY DERBY GALA

The Rhode Island Alzheimer’s Association will hold a Kentucky Derby-themed gala and auction at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Wannamoisett Country Club, 96 Hoyt Ave., East Providence. Attendees will sip mint juleps while donning traditional derby attire. There will be a three-course dinner, games, prizes a silent and live auction, and live entertainment by Cliff Cherry and Frank Castle. Tony Petrarca, meteorologist for WPRI-TV CBS 12, will serve as master of ceremonies. All proceeds from the event support free programs for families dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. HARLEM WIZARD GAME

The Harlem Wizards basketball team will take on local teachers and principals during a game to be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the Providence Career and Technical Academy, 41 Fricker St., Providence. Superintendent Susan Lusi will serve as honorary coach. Fans will observe basketball tricks, coordinated ball handling and comedic athleticism during the game. Following the game, there will be a free autograph session. All proceeds will benefit the Classical High School football program. Tickets: $6 in advance, $10 at the door. CRAFTING FOR CRITTERS

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold their second annual Crafting for Critters spring craft fair and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick. More than 40 vendors will sell a variety of products, including stained glass, jewelry, candles, pet treats, books and clothing. Admission is free. THE BEGGARS BANQUET

The Wilbury Theatre Group’s Board of Directors will present an inaugural fundraising event, The Beggars Banquet, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at its performance space at Trinity Theater at the Southside Cultural Center, 393 Broad St., Providence. During the event, the performance space will be transformed into a city underworld, complete with food, drink, games and live music by the Rhode Island Ukulele Armada and David Tessier and his All-Star Band. Attendees will mingle with Wilbury artists while participating in raffles and a silent auction. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be provided by local restaurants, bars and breweries. Kim Kalunian, local actress and news personality, will serve as master of ceremonies. All proceeds will benefit artistic and educational programs and help further establish The Wilbury Theatre Group as a new professional theatre company in Providence.
