DAY-AFTER-THANKSGIVING CLEANUP
Save The Bay will host a volunteer cleanup effort beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 at
Oakland Beach, 885 Oakland Beach Ave., Warwick. Volunteers must have their own transportation to and from the cleanup site and be able to do some light to moderate bending and lifting. Volunteers must be 6 years of age or older to participate in this cleanup. All volunteers younger than 16 must participate with an adult. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes. LIGHTS OF LOVE
The Westerly Hospital Auxiliary will host its 29th annual fundraising reception at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1 at the hospital lobby, 25 Wells St., Westerly. This year’s ceremony will honor two retiring physicians, Dr. Bruce Gillie and Dr. Robert Serra and feature local soloist Eileen Fiore. During the “Lights of Love” program, the community is invited to honor or remember a loved one by purchasing a “Love Light” in their name in denominations of $5, $25, $50, $100, or more. Names of those honored or remembered will be posted weekly on a display board in the hospital lobby, and on a holiday tree at the front entrance. Proceeds from this year’s campaign will be used to purchase equipment for the hospital’s pharmacy and diagnostic imaging departments. 2013 JINGLE BELL RUN/WALK
The Arthritis Foundation will host a 5K fundraising race beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Daggett Farm Area at Slater Memorial Park, 451 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. This holiday-themed costume race follows a five kilometer route and will benefit the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to find a cure for the disease. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Race begins at 11 a.m. Post-race refreshments will be served by Chili’s Grill & Bar at 1 p.m. Cost: $30 before Dec. 4; $35 after. BLACK & WHITE GALA
The Rhode Island Film Collaborative will host a fundraising gala at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin St., Providence. The “roaring twenties” themed event will begin with a cocktail reception which includes cocktails, music and hors d’oeuvres. The gala begins at 8 p.m. and features living art, an open air photo booth, live performances by Superchieftrio and The Royal Providence Burlesque and more. CRAFTING FOR CRITTERS
The Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will host their annual fundraising event and Christmas craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick. More than 40 vendors will offer a variety of products for sale, including: stained glass, jewelry, children’s clothing, handmade baked goods, crafts, and herbs. Free.
