College Goal Rhode Island will host its seventh annual financial aid event between Jan. 15 and Jan. 29 at selected sites in Rhode Island. During the event, financial aid professionals will be available to provide hands-on assistance, offering line-by-line explanations of the FAFSA as well as guidance on the financial aid process and application deadlines. College Goal Rhode Island is a statewide charitable program that provides free information and assistance to families applying for college financial aid. Free. The Courthouse Center for the Arts will host a cocktail party from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Road, West Kingstown. The event includes piano entertainment with actor Michael Thurber, an advanced screening of “The Actor” short film, appetizers provided by Westerly High Culinary School, a cash bar and an appearance from writer/director Mike Messier. Proceeds will benefit the Courthouse Center for the Arts and their collaboration with Collective Thought Media's next movie “Disregard the Vampire,” a film to be shot at Courthouse Center for the Arts. The Providence Children’s Museum will host an event from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum on 100 South St., Providence. During the event, guests will explore an exhibit of photographs, words and books describing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and work, participate in an interactive exploration of the negative power of discrimination and see powerful performances of “M.L.K.: Amazing Grace.” Award-winning actors/storytellers Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson bring history to life through songs and stories as they portray Civil Rights activists Rosa Parks, Ralph Abernathy and more. Meeting Street will host its 38th annual telethon from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1000 Eddy St., Providence. Families are invited to visit Meeting Street during the event, which will be televised live on WPRI Channel 12, to donate and partake in activities in the Meeting Street gym, view online auction items in person and meet some of the Meeting Street children and their families. Local television and radio celebrities along with local politicians will be in attendance. Refreshments will be offered. Meeting Street provides individualized attention from highly trained educators at its state of the art campus in Rhode Island. All donations will benefit Meeting Street children. Free to attend. The Women’s Fund will host a fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30 at The Waypoint Event Center, 185 MacArthur Drive, New Bedford, Mass. The event will support the work of the Women’s Fund and their grantees: Artworks! and Dream Out Loud. Guests will enjoy live music performances, appetizers, wine and an exhibition of artwork. The Women’s Fund seeks to advance the educational attainment and economic security of women and girls in Southeastern Mass. Cost: $25 per person. Pre-registration encouraged.
