ADOPTION OPEN HOUSE

Family Service of Rhode Island will host an information open house for anyone interested in becoming a foster parent from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26 in the agency’s offices at 134 Thurbers Ave., Providence. The agency has a waiting list of boys and girls between 11 and 18 years old from Bristol, Coventry, Cumberland, Narragansett, Newport, Providence, Smithfield, Warwick, Warren, and Woonsocket. DINNER IS SERVED

Sargent Rehabilitation Center will host its fourth annual signature fundraising gala from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28 at Quidnessett Country Club, 950 North Quidnessett Road, North Kingstown. The event will feature an evening of dining, where guests will be waited on by celebrity servers, and dancing. Gene Valicenti, WJAR anchor and WPRO radio show host will preside as the master of ceremonies during the event. Tips awarded by dinner guests, along with proceeds from the event, will directly benefit Sargent Center’s capital improvement and building expansion fund designed to expand its Warwick campus and improve programs for children and adults with disabilities. The event includes a four-course dinner, dancing to music by Mystique and live and silent auctions. Cost: $100 per person. DAY ONE 5K RUN/WALK

Day One will host a 5K Run/Walk beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Brown University Stadium track, 400 Elmgrove Ave., Providence. The race, which is aimed at raising awareness about sexual assault on college campuses, will start and finish at the Brown University Stadium track. It is the first of several events planned in April to raise awareness about sexual violence. A youth 1K race begins at 9 a.m. Aid stations and water will be provided along the course. SWING INTO SPRING

AIDS Care Ocean State will host a fundraising event from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 at the Roger Williams Park Casino, on South Elmwood in Providence. The event will feature a 1930s-40s theme with live music by Superchief Trio, swing dancing, hors d’oeuvres, light dinner fare and cocktails. The organization’s 2013 Philanthropists of the year will also be honored during the event. Cost: $75 per person. ANNUAL DREAM DATE AUCTION

Children's Wishes will hold its fifth annual Dream Date Auction at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10 at The Thirsty Beaver Hometown Pub and Grub, 288 Atwood Ave., Cranston. During the event, bachelors and bachelorettes will be auctioned off by hosts, Micheala Johnson of The Rhode Show and Ben DeCastro of Cardi's Furniture. Winning bidders will win a “dream date” with their chosen bachelor/ bachelorette. The evening includes free appetizers, drink specials, raffles and more. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Wishes and help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Cost: $10 per person; free for participating bachelors and bachelorettes. E-WASTE RECYCLING DRIVE

Bridge Technical Talent will host its seventh e-waste recycling drive from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 at the Texas Roadhouse, Warwick Parking Lot, 1200 Quaker Lane, Warwick. During the event, the public is welcome to drop off old or unwanted electronics. Office Recycling Solutions will provide trucks to receive all e-waste for proper recycling and there will also be a shredding truck at the event provided by Affordable Shredding Inc. Cost: a small donation per e-waste item is highly encouraged. Document-shredding services will be provided at $.50 per pound and a percentage of this fee will be donated. Proceeds from this event will benefit Oceans of Grace, the outreach ministry of the First Lutheran Church of East Greenwich. For more information, call (401) 234-2419.
