Placing contract workers

Danilo Reyes, founder and president of Providence-based Available Staffing Network, is tapping into demand for contract employees.

“I noticed things were starting to come back since the recession,” he said of his decision to launch his own business last year. “Employers were starting to hire again.”

Reyes’ staffing agency hires employees to work at a growing list of 20 employers in fields ranging from aerospace and engineering to medical devices and jewelry making. Many contract workers transition to permanent employment, typically within three months, he added.

And so far, all of the workers he’s hired and employers he matches them up with are Rhode Island-based, he said.

Starting with two recruiters and an administrative assistant, ASN has expanded in seven months to four recruiters and added a payroll clerk. By mid-July, the firm had hired 145 contract workers, with company revenue totaling more than $1.6 million, Reyes said.

“I love putting people to work,” he said. •
