PROVIDENCE – The Polaris Manufacturing Extension Partnership will receive a $750,000 federal grant for its work in making the state’s manufacturing industry more competitive and innovative.
The grant, announced this week by U.S. Sens. Jack F. Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, is awarded through a manufacturing program under the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Polaris MEP is a statewide nonprofit that provides competitive manufacturing business improvement programs. It is a business unit of the University of Rhode Island Research Foundation.
The partnership provides on-site training and one-on-one custom services to help manufacturing companies in Rhode Island grow their business and operate more efficiently, according to a statement from Reed and Whitehouse.
“Our manufacturers have always made quality products and created well-paying jobs, fueling our economy for generations,” Whitehouse said, in the statement. “I’m glad that this federal funding will allow Polaris to continue supporting Rhode Island manufacturers.”
