PROVIDENCE – Nicole Pollock, chief of policy and innovation for Mayor Jorge O. Elorza, will become his chief of staff, replacing Tony Simon, who is leaving for a new career opportunity.

“Nicole has proven that she is a dynamic, collaborative leader and an innovative force for progress in the city,” Elorza said in a statement Tuesday. “I know that she will continue to move Providence forward in her new role.”

Pollock, who joined the administration in February 2015 as chief innovation officer, has served as chief of policy and innovation for the administration since this spring. According to information from Elorza’s office, she has led initiatives to improve city services, increase data transparency and measure the effectiveness of the city’s processes and programs.

“I love Providence and look forward to advancing the mayor’s vision for strong, vibrant neighborhoods, and thriving communities throughout the city. We have a strong team and am eager to build on our collective strengths to deliver on the progress and support that our residents deserve,” Pollock said.
Pollock, a Brown University graduate, previously oversaw policy and bond initiatives, communications and program development for the R.I. Department of Environmental Management.
Simon will remain to assist with the transition through August.
The mayor also announced several other staff changes.
Carolyn Arias will serve as director of telecommunications; Matthew Shumate will serve as director of mayoral advance; and Angel Subervi will serve as senior advisor for neighborhood projects.
