Preserve R.I. gets funding through Rhody Ramble

PROVIDENCE – Preserve Rhode Island, a nonprofit preservation advocacy organization, has received a second year of funding to expand its Rhody Ramble program that seeks to connect families with historic Rhode Island locations through child-focused events.

Launched in 2012, the first Rhody Ramble included events for children ages 5-12 at 21 member locations of the Historic Sites Coalition of Rhode Island, a program of Preserve Rhode Island founded in 2007 through which stewards of historic sites share resources to promote the state’s history.

Rhody Rambler events included outdoor festivals, concerts, farm visits, reenactments, scavenger hunts, and tours.

2013 events will kick off this April during school vacation week.

Continued funding will be used to offer workshops to historic sites on best practices in children’s programming led by educators at the Providence Children’s Museum, to develop a resource guide on program development and evaluation, and to work with four sites on building better systems for evaluations.
