Prov. recognized as top N.A. city for filmmaker

PROVIDENCE – The capital city was ranked the No. 3 Best Small City for a Filmmaker in North America by Moviemaker Magazine, which recently released its 17th annual list of “Best Places to Live and Work as a Moviemaker 2017,” the R.I. Film & TV Office announced Feb. 13.

Weeks of research, interviews with film commissions and surveys of moviemakers were conducted to determine the best N.A. cities in which to practice the craft of cinema. Criteria included the amount of film production, support systems in the local film community and culture, such as film schools, festivals, independent movie theaters and film organizations, access to equipment and facilities, tax incentives, cost of living and more.

Gov. Gina M. Raimondo said Providence is honored to be recognized as “one of the very best cities in America to live and work as a filmmaker.” •
