Provdotnet selected by Rhode Island Telephone for co-location services

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island Telephone Inc. has selected Provdotnet LLC to provide data center co-location services.
Rhode Island Telephone, based in Warwick, will use one of Provdotnet’s Providence data centers.
George Shaheen, Rhode Island Telephone’s president, said he selected Provdotnet due to several reasons, noting the company is in Rhode Island, has a “stellar” service reputation and is allowing his firm to work with the telecommunications carriers that it chooses.
“By having our primary CloudWorx servers at Provdotnet and failover servers at our headquarters in Warwick, we offer true redundancy,” Shaheen said in a statement. “In fact, we are the only VoIP [Voice over Internet Protocol] provider in the state that has facilities that are actually hosted in Rhode Island, which is a critical factor with VoIP technology. Most people do not realize VoIP is actually time- and distance-sensitive, so the further away the VoIP server is from your business, the higher the likelihood you will suffer from poor quality.”
Voice over Internet Protocol is a technology that allows voice calls to be made using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line, according to information from the Federal Communications Commission.
Rhode Island Telephone, in a news release, said it offers a local alternative for Cloud-based VoIP for businesses.

Ron Sacks, Provdotnet’s managing partner and CEO, said, “We have been patiently courting Rhode Island Telephone for a long time and we are very happy to have them join the ever-growing community of Provdotnet customers.”
