Providence Center, Thundermist collaborate on mental health program

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The Providence Center, a community-based behavioral health treatment center, now has an Integrated Health Home program at Thundermist Health Center, a federally-qualified patient-centered medical home with offices in Woonsocket, Westerly and South Kingstown. Located at Thundermist’s South County facility in South Kingstown, the program provides high-quality treatment to adults enrolled in Medicaid who are struggling with serious mental illness.

The Health Home model, a team-based clinical approach, provides coordinated services and a specialized treatment plan personalized to each client’s specific needs, according to a statement from The Providence Center. The Home Health team includes therapists, nurses, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners, case managers, recovery specialists and peer mentors. In addition to receiving support for their mental illness, clients can readily access other treatment options from Thundermist, such as primary care and dental services.

“Working side-by-side with the providers at Thundermist allows us to provide our clients the best multidisciplinary care possible,” Katie Richards, program manager, said in the statement. “We look forward to continued growth and greatly appreciate the warm welcome and support from Thundermist.”

Thundermist’s day-to-day work focuses on reducing physical, psychological and social barriers to good health. By providing these collaborative and enhanced services with The Providence Center to individuals with severe mental illness, Thundermist reported that it expects to more effectively support the health and well-being of these patients.
