PROVIDENCE – The Providence Center’s Anchor Recovery Community Center, a support program for people in recovery, has surpassed 100,000 visitors as of Aug. 2, about 18 months after opening its doors.

“The Anchor was created in response to a need in Rhode Island and the incredible attendance rate shows how important this unique program is,” said Dale K. Klatzker, president and CEO of the Providence Center, in a statement.

The Anchor, which opened in December 2010, the Anchor Center provides activities including peer coaching, 12 step groups, population-focused support groups training and vocational services for people recovering from substance abuse problems.

“The Anchor has served as an impetus for our community and brought recovery to Main Street. In addition to helping thousands of courageous people live their best lives through recovery, the Anchor has served as a symbol of what the recovery community can do when we come together” said James Gillen, associate director of recovery services at the Providence Center and manager of the Anchor Recovery Community Center, in a statement.

The Providence Center, which opened in 199, serves more than 11,000 people per year and offers more than 40 programs.
