Providence Children’s Museum raises $77K at gala

PROVIDENCE – The Providence Children’s Museum hosted nearly 200 guests for its Unplugged 2016 gala at the Pawtucket Armory on April 30, raising $77,000.

This year the annual fundraiser focused on the museum’s critical outreach and provision of play and learning opportunities for children and families in need. Guests bid on more than 60 live and silent auction items to raise $13,000 and gave another $12,500 in support of the museum’s general operations.

Two organizations that empower families and inspire imagination and play were recognized at the event. The first was Bananagrams Inc., a three-generation toy company owned by the Nathanson family and creator of the well-known spelling and literacy game. The second, Children’s Friend, a nonprofit organization founded in 1834 to improve the health and well-being of young, at-risk Rhode Islanders, has provided child welfare and family support to more than 34,000 individuals each year.

The event was sponsored by Collette, Amica Insurance and Nortek Inc.
