PROVIDENCE – Providence College is one of five finalists chosen to participate at the extreme Accounting (exact), a national student accounting competition.
A five-member student team will represent Providence College Jan. 8-9 in New York City. It’s the second national finals appearance for Providence College in its seven-year history of participating. The team, which calls themselves, “The Consolidators,” is led by Ann C. Montemarano, and includes David J. Glaser, Vincent A. Travelyn , Amanda P. Medeiros and Philip M. Pin.
The team is coached by faculty mentor Christine Earley, professor of accountancy and mentor Robert L. Burkhart. Providence College, which was selected from 45 schools, will compete against four other schools – the University of California – Berkley, the University of Texas, the University of Washington, and Villanova University. The finalists were chosen recently by a national review committee after individual campus presentations in November.
xACT is a collegiate competition intended to provide students with educational, career-oriented, and networking opportunities. The competition is sponsored by global accounting and auditing giant PricewaterhouseCoopers and will take place at the firm’s headquarters. The five finalists each receive $10,000 from PricewaterhouseCoopers, and their faculty mentor is awarded $5,000. The overall champion will be crowned the winner of the Montgomery Award, named after Robert Montgomery, who wrote the first U.S. book on the practice of accounting.
