The conversion of the former site of the Federated Lithographers printing company and Beaman & Smith tool shop into a medical campus was a 12-year process, undertaken by Vision 3 Architects and several contractors. The project began in 2003, when Providence Community Health Centers purchased the 3.5-acre site, which included nine structures, some of which dated to the 1890s. The Prairie Avenue Medical Campus, completed in fall 2014, now features a new, 41,750-square-foot Primary Health Care Center, 50,000 square feet of medical offices fashioned from three historic structures and a 4,800-square-foot Walgreen pharmacy.
