PCL hosts Alt-Comic Con

PROVIDENCE – Alt-Comic Con was hosted by the Providence Community Library on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Mount Pleasant Library, as an opportunity for children and teenagers to rejoice in the excitement surrounding the R.I. Comic Con.

Emily LeMay, the event’s organizer, said: “The idea is to introduce kids and teens to people and organizations in Providence who are working creatively in the fields of technology, art and pop culture. We hope that they will inspire young people to pursue artistic endeavors and possibly consider pursuing a career in creative arts.”

Billed as an event that was suitable for all ages, the “alternative” Comic-Con was a free interactive event in which local artists, like Big Nazo Lab, Providence Comics Consortium and Providence City Arts for Youth, interacted with attendees. The library, which was transformed into a mini convention hall, held a talk by the Providence Roller Derby team in support of graphic novelist Victoria Jamieson’s, “Roller Girl.”

The inspiration continued as Alt-Comic Con attendees were able to take home a donated comic book at the end of the event.
