Providence Geeks to host Focal Upright co-founders at dinner

PROVIDENCE – Focal Upright, known for its ergonomic office furniture, will be featured tonight at the Providence Geeks’ dinner at AS220 on Empire Street.
Co-founders Martin Keen and Mary Hall Keen will talk about how their business began, demonstrate their products and unveil something new at the dinner, which will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
A variety of Focal Upright products also will be available for demonstration. The North Kingstown-based company also was recognized recently with a Good Design Award for its sphere workstation from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.
Sphere features a standing seat combined with an adjustable-height standing desk. According to information from the company, it was chosen from among thousands of products representing manufacturers and design firms worldwide. Built in Rhode Island of recyclable aluminum and American-made wooden desktops, it was selected in the furniture category for its innovation, utility and cutting-edge design.
“We are honored to be the recipient of the 2015 Good Design award,” Martin Keen said.
“It keeps the user in a more healthful upright posture that combines the best of sitting and standing without the pain and fatigue of either,” a press release from Focal Upright states.
The Good Design awards program has been around since 1950.

Information about the dinner can be found on the Providence Geeks’ Facebook page.
