The Providence Rotary Charities Foundation recently announced that it has awarded $56,100 in community grants to 22 charitable groups focused on aiding disadvantaged children in and around Providence.

“Thanks to generous support over the years from Rotarians and the wider community, we continue to partner with nonprofits to help transform young lives in the city of Providence,” said Bryan Cook, foundation chairman.

Among the recipients was Blessings in a Backpack, which received $4,800. The organization will use the money to provide 60 students from San Miguel School with food-filled backpacks to bring home on weekends during the school year.

Providence Community Library was awarded $4,000 toward its extended-learning program, while Whitmarsh House received $3,500 to support case-management services, which help young men with housing, education, counseling and support.

The foundation’s total donations for this program year are expected to total more than $70,000. •
