Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau launches social media effort to promote Providence

PROVIDENCE – Do you like living or working in Providence? Or maybe visiting one of its many attractions or restaurants?
Show your civic pride by using the new hashtag being promoted by the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau: #WhyIGoProv. It’s part of the bureau’s social media initiative intended to promote the city.
“We are excited to launch this campaign in an effort to create social chatter highlighting all of the things we love about the city of Providence,” Martha Sheridan, PWCVB president and CEO, said in a statement.
“This allows our team to share authentic content to promote increased travel through social platforms. Visitors to a city love to hear what locals recommend,” Sheridan said.
The PWCVB plans to work with community leaders to spread the message, and, later this year, it also plans to offer prizes for the best responses. The bureau is encouraging people to use the hashtag #WhyIGoProv on various social media platforms.
On Nov. 12, U.S. Rep. James R. Langevin took to Twitter with the hashtag, citing the Providence Performing Arts Center and “all the amazing restaurants.”
The bureau will monitor posts and re-share them through its social media channels and on its website GoProvidence.com.
