Providence authorizes TSA to convert vacant building to mixed-use space

PROVIDENCE – The city has authorized a tax stabilization agreement to facilitate the conversion of a vacated building, at 225 Weybosset St., to a mixture of commercial and retail space and upper-floor apartments.

The TSA, authorized on Jan. 19, is a 12-year phase-in of full property taxes on the improvements. The first three years require the developer to pay only existing tax values on the property, according to the documents.

The project is the third redevelopment effort in Providence by ASH NYC, led by principal Ari Heckman. His most notable local investment was the conversion of the former Sportsman’s Inn on Fountain Street into the Dean Hotel, according to a city news release.
The development team most recently was responsible for the rehabilitation of 32 Custom House on Custom House Street.
