NEW YORK — Providence earned the No. 2 spot on Travel + Lesiure’s “America’s Best Cities for Ice Cream” in the magazine’s July 2013 issue, in addition to being dubbed overall No. 1 eating-and-drinking city by readers in 2012.
Providence was out-ice creamed only by Savannah, Ga., according to the travel publication. Neighboring Boston came in at No. 8.
The magazine cited delectable treats such as macaron ice cream sandwiches at Ellie’s Bakery — owned by Ellen Slattery, who runs Gracie’s Restaurant on Federal Hill — and coffee-flavored variations at Three Sisters, which include coffee bean, coffee Oreo and coffee crunch.
Travel + Leisure also tipped its hat to the city’s flourishing street food culture by highlighting PVD Pops, a “a bicycle-operated pushcart selling pudding pops in flavors such as pumpkin chocolate chip and pineapple basil.”
