NEW YORK – Providence ranked eighth on Travel + Leisure Magazine’s list of America’s snobbiest cities, making the top ten along with fellow New England city Boston.
The travel magazine evaluated cities based on traditional measures of elitism including high brow cultural offerings, intelligence of residents and upscale shopping opportunities.
The publication also took into consideration newer concepts of snobbery including tech-savviness and coffeehouses: Providence scored number three in the webpage’s rank of best café cities.
Aside from coffeehouses, Providence also earned its rank with dining options and artistic presence. Of Travel and Leisure’s various lists, the city has ranked number one for hamburgers and two for city pizza offerings. It also came in fourth for performance art.
Boston ranked third, following number one San Francisco and New York City. The magazine cited Boston’s collegiate energy and historic environment.
